Nicole Richards founded RICHARDSARCHITECTS in 2019. RICHARDSARCHITECTS strive to create quality design solutions that have an integrated approach to design using innovative and cost-effective drivers. Our intention is to create timeless and resilient architecture in light of our client’s requirements and vision for the project.
RICHARDSARCHITECTS is a full-service practice. We specialise in Commercial Office Design, Industrial and Mini-Factory Design, Medium-Scale Retail Outlets and Multi-Unit Residential Developments. Our design and documentation is executed using Revit based software allowing a comprehensive BIM modelling network. Our BIM modelling gives clients more flexibility to partner with us to see the designs come to life in a 3D virtual world. RICHARDSARCHITECTS also collaborates with other professionals to deliver the best product possible for our clients. We can deliver a full project scope including: Consulting Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, Interior Designers, Landscape Architects and Graphic designer for marketing and branding material.
Our relationship with our clients remains a priority in our professional service. We promote buildings that have a unique energy which are well-grounded in their local context and environment. We carefully consider energy efficiency, functionality, budget constraints, materiality and the ‘genius loci’ of the place in order to produce quality buildings on time.

Nicole Richards was born in Johannesburg, South Africa and attended St. Andrew’s School for Girls for her schooling career. She moved to Durban after matriculating and earned her Bachelor of Architectural Studies (B.Arch, 2004) at the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal. Having gained experience at a local architectural practice in Durban, she returned to study and completed her Masters in Architecture (M.Arch, 2007) at the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal. After graduating, she worked as a project architect at Choromanski Architects on the Pan African Parliament Building in Midrand. Subsequently, she worked at Elphick Proome Architects from 2010-2014 on several prolific commercial developments in Umhlanga. In 2014, Nicole became one of the founding partners of FWJK Architecture. Her career as the Director of FWJK Architecture has seen her complete buildings across various complexities including large-scale offices, industrial, residential and commercial developments.
Nicole’s key focus is on interpreting the client brief, conceptualising the design and advancing design development whilst keeping a close eye on programme and cost. Nicole has been the recipient of various awards including PMR Golden Arrow Award- Diamond Category on behalf of FWJK Architecture and won the Regional Young Achiever Award at the 2017 SA Women in Property Awards.
